The huge state of Kazakhstan occupies the northwestern part of Central Asia\u00a0and\u00a0in spring\u00a0has so much to offer the bird photographer.\u00a0This vast Central Asian country\u00a0is\u00a0five times\u00a0larger than\u00a0France\u00a0and\u00a0stretches 2,000 kilometres from the Caspian Sea to China and 1,200 kilometres from the Urals to its southern borders with\u00a0Kyrgyzstan. With a population of just 18 million, split\u00a0evenly between Kazakhs and Russians,\u00a0it\u00a0is one of the least densely populated countries in Eurasia\u00a0but one of the richest areas for birds\u00a0straddling\u00a0the border between\u00a0the\u00a0Western and Eastern\u00a0Palearctic.
